One of 6 large illustrations on gallery wrapped canvas created for the Ohio Historical Society, this one depicts a Hopewell medicine man or shaman treating a tattooed patient on an overlook above an ancient geometric mound site in Ohio. It features some artifacts that are distinctly Hopewellian, such as a mica ornament shaped like a falcon’s talon, characteristic pottery, human palate pendant, bearskin ceremonial attire, finger-woven clothing, and a hafted stone celt for chopping wood. The Hopewell, like the Adena, were ancient astronomers annd keen-eyed observers, and built incredible earthworks oriented to the heavens.
