‘Green-wing Macaw,’ an original acrylic painting, copyright Susan A. Walton of S. A. Walton studio, Hudson, Florida.
This is a a depiction of a Green Wing Macaw or Red and Green Macaw in its tropical environment. Details like the little red facial feathers which green-wing macaws are known for are included. The patterns that facial feathers form on a macaw’s face are unique to each individual. Their personalities are also unique!
I usually work on more than one painting at the same time, moving from one, to the next, and back again to keep the process fresh- as well as for practical purposes of palette management. It helps to avoid wasting my quick-drying acrylic paints, or in the case of oils or watercolor, the practice allows time for paints to dry a bit between work sessions.
There is no sense in allowing unused paint to dry up when another painting is available in which the color can be used; in the event I get stuck on one piece, working on a different one will often give me ideas useful in resolving the roadblock on the first. The main thing is to keep on painting.
The bird in this case, is one I worked with at a local exotic bird sanctuary, where they are kept together in a group flight with other macaws. It is a great place to watch the birds interact and most of them definitely love to engage people.
Macaws are generally, though not always, boisterous and sociable, and some really like to prank the people who volunteer there.
This original painting is perfect for a spot in your home where you want a bright tropical or exotic look in a vertical format, and it will add color and interest to a narrow space.
This painting features a Green-wing Macaw, (Ara chloropterus, sometimes called the Green and Red Macaw) high up in a flowering tree native to the bird’s wild range.
This work of avian art is on cotton illustration board and must be framed to hang and display. Framing is available here at my studio or any professional framer can assist with choosing the perfect frame for you.
