Heliconia & Honduran White Bat (a work in progress, coming soon)

Paint, Acrylic • 2025

“Heliconia,” an original painting by Susan A. Walton, Hudson, Florida. This is a work in progress, but the colors are roughly Original 1 is a host plant of the Forest Giant Owl Butterfly (Caligo eurilochus.) Native to southern Mexico, Central America and northern South America. The Honduran White Bat also uses Heliconia for shelter- they chew the midrib of a leaf until a portion of the end of a leaf flops over and use the protected space beneath to roost. I saw my first heliconias here in Florida and I love the large, very exotic orange bracts on this particular variety; the plant stands out in both color and form in the garden, and the painting will likewise add color and interest to your home decor. #TropicalDecor #Heliconias #HomeAndGarden #OriginalArt
