‘The Prince of Pasco County ~ Peacock,‘ an original acrylic painting copyright Susan A. Walton, S. A. Walton Studio, Hudson, Florida
A handsome peacock, l looking quite regal in the afternoon light. This was my neighbor’s bird, and it frequently visited my studio before the neighbors moved out of the area. My mixed Americauna rooster was not a fan of these visits, but I certainly enjoyed them, and were it not for my grumpy but loved rooster, I probably would have sought to acquire a peacock and a peahen to grace this place, too.
Peafowl are not native to this country, but have been popular garden birds on fine estates for ages. They are native to India, where the species is the national bird, and are admired worldwide.
One drawback that they have is that their calls are very loud, so unless your neighbors are animal lovers or hard of hearing, they had best be distant. The other drawback is that due to the size of their glorious tail feathers, and their need for exercise, they need quite a lot of room and should not be closely confined.
I chose to build the background with layers of yellow and semi -transparent metallic gold paint to give the piece a striking, rich glow that would set off the lapis blue and turquoise of this most colorful, magnificent bird.
This is a gallery wrapped original painting on canvas and I extended the painting onto the four sides for a finished, contemporary look. Hanging hardware is included, and the painting may be displayed as-is, or it can be additionally accented with a floater frame if desired.
